Spin through the greatest NBA teams and eras. Draft six players and try to go a perfect 82-0.
The 82-0 Challenge is a free NBA draft simulation game where you build an all-time roster by selecting players from random team and decade combinations spanning the entire history of professional basketball. Your goal is simple and historically impossible: go undefeated through a full 82-game NBA regular season.
No team in NBA history has ever gone 82-0. The closest anyone came was the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls, who finished 72-10 with Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Dennis Rodman — considered by many the greatest single-season performance in league history. The 2015-16 Golden State Warriors later pushed that record to 73 wins before losing three in a row at the end of the season. Going 82-0 remains one of sports' truly impossible benchmarks.
Your roster has seven slots to fill: Point Guard, Shooting Guard, Small Forward, Power Forward, Center, 6th Man, and a Wildcard. Each round spins a random NBA franchise and a random decade — you might land on the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers, the 1990s Chicago Bulls, the 2000s San Antonio Spurs, or the 2020s Denver Nuggets. Pick the best available player from that team and era for your open position.
You get one free re-spin per round — either re-spin the team or re-spin the decade. Use it wisely. If you land on a weak combination for your remaining positions, the re-spin gives you a second shot at a better pool of players. Once you've locked in all seven players, the simulation runs automatically.
The simulation engine evaluates your roster on three dimensions: statistical output (points, rebounds, assists per game averaged across your roster), roster balance (how evenly your players contribute across positions), and star power (All-Star selections and MVP awards boost your win probability significantly). A roster loaded with Hall of Famers and multiple MVP winners will reach win probabilities in the 85–90% range per game — elite, but never guaranteed.
Even the best possible roster — say, Nikola Jokić at center, LeBron James at forward, Michael Jordan at shooting guard, Magic Johnson at point guard, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar off the bench — still has roughly a 10-15% chance of losing any given game. That's by design. The simulation reflects the genuine unpredictability of sports. A team with 90% win probability has about a 1-in-1,000 chance of going 82-0. Most rosters never get there.
The player database covers the NBA from the 1950s through the 2020s, organized by decade and franchise. Every player's stats reflect their performance during a specific era with a specific team — so you'll see the 1980s Boston Celtics version of Larry Bird (29.9 PPG, 10.5 RPG) rather than a composite career average. Notable players include legends like Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Julius Erving, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Nikola Jokić, and dozens more from every era.
Players with multiple All-Star appearances and MVP awards receive significant scoring bonuses in the simulation — rewarding genuine greatness over raw volume stats. Nikola Jokić's three MVPs, LeBron's four MVPs, and Michael Jordan's five MVPs all carry meaningful weight in your roster's calculated strength.
The 1980s are stacked at every position — Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Charles Barkley, Dominique Wilkins, and Patrick Ewing all played during this era. The 1990s give you Michael Jordan, Shaquille O'Neal, Hakeem Olajuwon, Karl Malone, and John Stockton. The 2020s offer the best pure scoring averages in history — Nikola Jokić, Luka Dončić, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander all average above 28 points per game.
Every completed season submits a normalized score to the global leaderboard, powered by Firebase. Scores are tracked daily, weekly, monthly, and all-time. You don't need an account — just set a display name and your results are saved automatically. The leaderboard shows your rank among every player who has completed the 82-0 Challenge worldwide.
